Flowers in Church

posted ‎‎Mar 2, 2009 11:23 AM‎‎ by webspinner@christchurchuxbridge.org.uk

Flowers in Church each week are provided by members of the congregation, yes that’s YOU!

Each week someone volunteers to pay for and someone arranges the flowers. If you would like to do both, you are welcome, if you would like to do just one or the other, that too would be welcomed.

There is a list of who is providing and who is arranging flowers week by week on the “Rotas” notice board on the short wall opposite the disabled access toilet. And if you want to make your donation in memory of someone or to celebrate an anniversary etc, please feel free to add that.

If you want to provide flowers, it costs a minimum of £15 to buy what may be suitable. Of course you may have plenty of suitable flowers and greenery in your garden/ allotment.

If you have any questions about this, please speak to Kathleen McGuiness or Mary Heslam.

London Marathon

posted ‎‎Mar 2, 2009 11:20 AM‎‎ by webspinner@christchurchuxbridge.org.uk

Communicare Counselling Service, which is based at Christ Church, has a runner in this year’s London marathon – trainee counsellor Jo Tucker. Communicare Counselling Service is a non-profit making charity which provides professional counselling for a range of issues which clients find impact on work performance, home and general well being.

The service is available regardless of income, donations being agreed as appropriate. This has been possible only due to generous support from local organisations and the counsellors being prepared to work at greatly reduced rates. Fundraising such as this is vital to its survival.

CCS is making an appeal for sponsorship of their runner in the Flora London Marathon this year. Anything you feel able to contribute, however large or small, would be greatly appreciated by those who are working so hard in this very worthwhile charity. Donations can be made directly to Communicare Counselling Service, online at www.justgiving.com/communicarecs or via the box in the church office.

Workaid

posted ‎‎Jan 26, 2009 1:10 PM‎‎ by webspinner@christchurchuxbridge.org.uk

Our nominated charity for 2009 is Workaid

Workaid is a national charity set up in 1986 as a practical way to help people in some of the poorest parts of the world by refurbishing and recycling equipment and tools that people in this country no longer need. The main aim is to support vocational training and self help projects in east Africa mainly in Kenya, Uganda and Zambia.

Workaid has a network over 90 volunteers all over the country collecting tools and equipment to be refurbished in the workshop which is now in Chesham, having just moved from the former premises in Amersham. During the week over 175 volunteers help in the workshop and office at Chesham and in recent years six containers per year full of tools have been despatched to Kenya, Uganda and Zambia with additional smaller consignments going elsewhere.

Our church nominated charity for 2008 was Sight Savers International

Boosted by money raised by the November Craft Fair, sales of jams and chutneys by the GB and proceeds from Music under the Pyramid concerts, the total raised for SightSavers was £1,650. A cheque for this amount was presented to Paul Holden, the representative from SightSavers, during our service on Sunday 21st December.

Our charity for 2009 is Workaid.
