She studied fine arts and under the tutelage of one of her teachers, textile artist Marilyn Pappas, she discovered her passion for using textiles and embroidery to create collage. After her studies, she moved to Washington, D.C. to live and work exhibiting regularly in the Capitol Hill gallery "Talking of Michelangelo". In 1976 she relocated across the water to Edinburgh, Scotland, where she exhibited in the National Gallery of Scotland and at the Edinburgh International Festival. In 1979 one of her collages "Viennese Dream" was the inspiration for a dance by Shelley Lee director of Basic Space Dance Theatre. The following 10 years were spent doing costume design for dance and theatre companies. In 1991 she looked to the film and mass media industry which provided new creative challenges and outlets. After 28 years in Scotland, she moved to Adge, France where she has reestablished herself as an artrist working with textiles.Chris Orvis est née dans l'etat de New York en 1948.
