This is a chronological compilation of newspaper clippings and internet articles I began collecting after the accident in May 1997. The first clipping below was what started me thinking about Chris. The last time I had seen him had been four months earlier in Lima, Peru where he lived at the time. I had heard that he was planning to move to Cambodia for work, but I hadn't talked to him recently, and wasn't sure of his whereabouts. One Saturday morning, I just randomly happened to pick up the newspaper --I never look at the paper on Saturday mornings-- and my eyes happened to scan over the tiny "At a glance" section. I didn't have the energy to read a "full-on" newspaper article, but those stories I could handle. I remember thinking "Why the heck would two Americans be flying around Cambodia?" (Remember this was 1997 and the Khmer Rouge was still in control of much of the country). I then went on lazily leafing through the paper until it struck me that Chris would have been flying around Cambodia...       Note: Doug knows Hurley Scroggins, who still works for the paper in PP. |
