What To Give | How To Give
![]() Thank you for your interest in improving education in China. Obviously any donation will be greatly valued as we work to achieve our goals, but the table below gives you an idea of what your gift might achieve.

Acknowledging our donors
If you wish to wholly fund a school or scholarship, we hope you will allow us to name the school or scholarship after you, in conjunction with CNYTrust. We look forward to building a ‘CNYTrust YOUR NAME School’ or awarding a ‘CNYTrust YOUR NAME Scholarship’ in the future. | The gift of a school
Building a new school is the most efficient way of helping the largest number of children. A typical school for 200 students in rural China costs about 700,000 RMB (£58,333) to build, depending on location. You can pick the area, type of school, name the school, and we’ll do the rest. The project typically takes one to two years from the donation to welcoming 200 excited, keen pupils into their new classrooms.
If you are considering giving the gift of school, please Contact Us using our web form and we can discuss the details.
Help an existing CNYTrust School
CNYTrust has now built one school—CNYTrust Damiao Primary School, but we continue our relationship with the school rather than just patting each other on the back and moving on. We want to do all we can to ensure they flourish, delivering solid, all-round education to the children. This extends to books for libraries, computers and internet connection, sports equipment and so on. We are sticklers for quality with value for money, and insist on overseeing all purchases, sourcing from local suppliers wherever possible.
Contact Us whether would like to help with something on our wish list, or have something specific in mind.
The gift of a university scholarship
CNYTrust has established several scholarship schemes to support talented students from rural China to continue their education at university level. It takes 12,000 – 15,000 RMB (about 1000 GBP) to support one student for one year; undergraduate bachelor degrees typically last 4 years. CNYTrust also offers additional bursaries and travel grants for students who excel at university, both academically and in student life.
We keep in touch with the students, and often with their lecturers, throughout their studies, and encourage them to give a little back into education in China upon graduation. We provide annual updates to the sponsors on the students who benefit, and encourage direct communication between the donor and beneficiary if the donor wants to be more actively involved.
Let us know if you are considering a scholarship, and we will help you identify the deserving student.
The gift of meals and boarding
Whilst the Chinese government has pledged to offer all children nine years of free education (from primary education up to the age of 15 or so), there are additional costs which make it prohibitive for some families, particularly families living far away from schools. CNYTrust identifies these grossly underprivileged families and seeks to cover the cost of meals and boarding, as well as books and other study materials, so that these children are given a chance of the most basic education.
The costs vary slightly with location. Primary education lasts 6 years, with children from 7 to 12 years old. Basic secondary education lasts 3 years after primary education. Advanced secondary education is not guaranteed by the government, and is largely based on selection through merit.
If you want to enable children to benefit from the most basic education, the education that they have a right to, get in touch with us.
