The Grand Tetons

On July 21st I met some friends from NC in the Tetons.

The Tetons from across the valley.

Here is an image of Grand Teton. Notice the spoon shaped snow field to the lower left of Grand Teton.

Notice the spoon shaped snow? It's the same snow from the photo above. We hiked approximately 5 miles and gained approximately 3000 ft to reach Ampitheatre Lake. It was gorgeous and the water was really cold. Most of us jumped in when we got to the lake.

This is the terminal moraine from a retreating glacier, that is Grand Teton in the upper left corner.

A beautiful tarn lake below the moraine.

Jess, in front of the moriane.

Some columbines found a niche in the rocks.

Annie and I, both Geneseo alumni and fellow Up State New Yorkers,  didn't meet until Annie started the Geography Grad. Program at Appalachian State University.
