When the first band of Chico State played its premiere performance, it did so with a combination of excellence, pride, and commitment.  Since then, the Band Program has held an enviable reputation. 

As a part of the Chico State Department of Music, the Band Program provides goal-orientated students a vehicle with which to reach their dreams. Students are given the opportunity to express themselves musically in a friendly yet challenging environment, created to bring out the talents and strengths of each performer. This atmosphere provides a social community where students can connect; creating a working environment that helps shape student's personal and social growth, making university life a more enjoyable, fruitful, and significant experience.

Chico State Bands are ambassadors to the world. As performing groups, the bands represent the university on campus, in the community, state, and nation, at professional music conference events, athletic events, and civil festivities. Open to all interested students, regardless of major, the bands contribute to campus life as a whole. It is this contribution that each band member shares and can take pride in. This pride gives each musician a profound sense of identification and belonging.
