Different friends coming at Tong An apartment at different times. At 4pm, Elephant and Ted came, I cooked a Salade Liegeoise for them. As it was raining cats and dogs, I couldn't take pictures of them with my Rolleiflex, so instead, Hsin San joined us for an UNO game. Damien and Pierre came at 9pm. Stephanie was in between. Bringing cheese, bread, apple pie and pistachio cake. The boys bought red wine. With people at different ages, 19, 26, 27, 29 and 30, the ensemble listened to music, someone showed a funny clip on Youtube, another sang his new song, another were busy writing chinese characters on the kitchen wall, others were drunk. Later, Stephanie unwrapped the apple pie, being happy with alcohol, and counted how many parts she should cut for everybody to be satisfied. Then one by one, everybody left. Ted stayed longer. it's more than 10 seconds of happiness. August 18 2008

this is captured from a strange video catherine brought home. it's a cooking video that teaches you how to cook chinese food (including "Fired Rice" and "Foo Yong Egg"). the person doing the cooking (not pictured) basically blazed through about five recipes in about ten minutes, accompanied to happy surreal music played on some battery-operated keyboard. and then he did it again, in case we missed it. I must say that it was among my most enjoyable movie experiences ever.
