Hot Tips
From E.J. - Those old creasote ties along the E&N should be disposed of properly. There is a big pile just above Askew Creek.
From Mary - People are already starting to dump their yard waste in ditches and along the railway line. This just spreads invasive species. We have free yard waste dumping at Peerless Road. Use it!
From Rodney - The old MacMillan haul road is getting to be a pig sty. Why do people throw their garbage there? It pollutes Mill Creek and looks ugly.
From T.R.J. - Askew Park is called a "wilderness park". Why doesn't someone (the muni, CRA, Communities in Bloom) take care of the invasive plants like the daphne, blackberry, holly, ivy and other stuff?
From F.R. - I see the Victoria Police are cracking down on loud motorcycles and cars. Can North Cowichan RCMP start doing the same thing? Chemainus and Victoria Roads need policing for noise and speed.
From Don - Communities in Bloom do hard work at the roundabout, but why plant all those annuals and exotics that need watering. We have some great native plants in our yard that are beautiful, perennial and NEVER need watering.

Dear CRA Members

Dear Chemainus Residents Association member:

As a new member of the CRA executive, I am very impressed with our present executive and would like to let you know more about them to show you that CRA is in very capable hands.

• Mark Kiemele, chair – He is a writer, editor and designer who has worked exclusively with First Nations around the Salish Sea for the past 13 years. He was editor of the Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle in the early 1980s.

• Bernie Jones, vice chair – He is a community development and planning consultant with decades of experience in community development, planning, and research, both as a private consultant and as a university-based community developer.

• Kathy Wachs, secretary – A dental office manager with 30 years experience in health delivery, she serves as a board member and volunteer in many arts, environmental and social services organizations.

• Mike Ferrario, treasurer – He is a retired technologist and a member of several conservation organizations.

• Ann Ursulom, director – She is employed at the Community Farm Store and served as secretary on the CRA board in early 2010.

• Lorraine Taylor, director – She is a former Chemainus business owner (the Oakleaf Gallery).

Needless to say, all of us are long-time Echo Heights supporters and many have been involved since the CRA was first formed in early 2006.

It is all well and good to have capable and dedicated executive to move toward ‘Keeping the vision of Echo Heights Forest as a Community Park’ but a strong membership is more important.

Now is the time to engage our members in our goals so we are starting with this note asking for your feedback.

We have a huge mailing list of members and are truly interested in finding out how many of you are still on board with us and we want to hear from you.

So, if you have time we would appreciate a return e-mail from you stating your interest in the CRA as well as your ideas, questions, suggestions, and comments to do with Echo Heights. We will certainly listen and appreciate your input.

Lorraine Taylor
