Tabletop Swamp is an amazing spot. Its one of the few sites at Litchfield NP that doesn't include a swimming spot and l suppose the word 'swamp' doesn't attract some people. On this occasion the swamp was receding in depth, leaving behind a dried carpet of algae. There was just thousands upon thousands of these skinks hunting and fighting amongst the stuff. I wondered how often they actually caught something and just as l was thinking that a skink right at my feet managed to grab a small dragonfly! I just love those moments! He (or she) raced off with it but dropped it in its haste. It stayed around for a few minutes till l moved off so it could go and retrieve its meal. The dragonfly was in no condition to take off.
