At Chaucer we actively encourage Healthy Lifestyles for all age groups, in all aspects of school life
Wake-up Shake-up Weather permitting, Reception and Key Stage 1 children and staff partake in a daily session of dance fitness to music in the school playground. This aims to promote personal physical fitness, increase self-esteem, enjoyment in physical activity and help focus the mind to perform to its full potential in curriculum lessons with the added bonus of better behaviour.
In July 2008 a group of Year 2 students gave a demonstration of a routine that the children in Mrs. Crawford's class had choreographed themselves at the annual organised Dance Festival for Primary schools in our area. They were very highly praised for their fitness and agility.
Healthy Eating
Our school is a member of the National Fruit Scheme. We receive a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, delivered daily and we encourage all children to eat the fruit of the day, as part of their five-a-day.
In addition to fruit, we encourage our children to drink water throughout the school day. In Foundation children are also offered a healthy snack and fresh milk or water.
Healthy School Meals are cooked fresh on site by our dedicated kitchen team. Their aim is to provide tempting and attractive healthy food combinations giving the children a nutritious balanced meal. |
