Open Drumming Details

To create the musical spirit in our own community, CCD plays with an “open” group on two Tuesday evenings each month (1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month).  Anyone is welcome to attend, and no drumming or musical experience is required.  Typically 12-20 people gather for basic instruction and to play various West African rhythms.  We teach the basics for the beginners as well as new rhythms and parts for more experienced drummers.  Bring a drum if you can, but we usually have a few extra djembes to share if you don't have one of your own.  Come and join the fun!

7:00 to 8:30pm

CHARLOTTE COMMUNITY DRUMMERS HAS A NEW LOCATION!

Thanks to the generosity of Park Road Baptist church, we will meet in their choir room starting Tuesday. March 15th , 2011.

Directions are shown below.

New Space; New Vision!
After much discussion and consensus we are making some adjustments to the Open Group.

1) To insure that we are good stewards of the location that has been provided, a donation will be collected each time we play at the church.  A donation in the range of $2-$5 per person is expected; all donations will be given directly to Park Rd. Baptist church in appreciation of hosting our group.
2) We will take our drumming out into the community during warm weather months.  We will periodically play in public parks, uptown or other fun places, so stay tuned to announcements!
3) The Open Group will be structured as an all-levels group.  While some time may be spent on learning a new part or rhythm, most of the time we'll focus on playing and enjoying traditional West African rhythms.  If you want to take lessons to improve technique, we will be glad to refer you to a qualified instructor.
4) The new time is 7:00 - 8:30.

Special thanks to Pastor Anne Eidson for offering this location!

The church is located at the corner of Park Road and Ashcraft Lane (near Park Rd Shopping Center).  You must turn onto Ashcraft Lane, go past the circular drive and turn left into the parking lot, which includes ample parking.  From the parking lot there is a pleasant stroll directly to the entrance of the choir room.  Enter the covered sidewalk toward the sanctuary, turn right on the sidewalk that leads past the playground equipment; at the end turn left and continue straight to the end; the choir room door is on the left.
