Chapter Directors:
Michael & Minnie Dorris mminmike@aol.com: Michael and Minnie have been members of the Chapter S group since 1991 along with their two children April and Jeremy. One day, while at the local post office in Portland, Tn and riding his 1983 1100 Goldwing, Michael crossed paths with Larry Stodgel who introuced them to the GWRRA. Joining the Chapter in 1991 Michael & Minnie had only been members of the Chapter a very short time, when in 1992 they were asked to join in as one of the Chapter Officers, Assistant Chapter Directors. They held that position for 3 years and then in 1997 they were asked to step into the Chapter Director position. In 1996 Larry Stodgel sadly passed away with cancer and thus was born the most prestigous award that Chapter S has to offer. The Larry Stodgel Memorial Award, given, each Christmas at the Chapter Dinner to the member that has had the most outstanding service to the Chapter for the year. Since joining the Chapter not only did they see Chapter officers come and go, but Michael & Minnie also saw a few bikes come & go. In 1992 he traded off his 83 Wing for an 86 SEI Wing, only to ride it for a short year and then trading off to a 93-1500 Wing. This bike hung around in the family for around 10 years before making the next change to a 95-1500 Wing, and last of the "Flying Dorris" Wings, you will see Michael and Minnie riding on their 2005-1800 Blue Wing.
Assistant Chapter Directors & Newsletter Editors:
Ronny & Dee England 76purplewing@gmail.com: Ronny & Dee joined the GWRRA in August of 2007 when David Mowen introduced them to it. David & Dee worked together in Portland, TN at one of the local factories in the industrial park. Ronny & Dee were riding a 1985 Honda Nighthawk 650 at the time, all the while dreaming of having a Goldwing in the driveway.David was able to make this dream come true in March of 2007 with a 1976-1000 black Goldwing. In March 2008 the "Black Wing " was transformed in the garage at David's house and turned into the "Purple Dragon." Lights and paint added to the effects of the bike which brought the winning trophy at Spring Fling 2008 for Best of Show Antique Class. Then once again, the dream of owning a Goldwing came true for them by purchasing a 1985-1200 Limited Edition Goldwing and now having two in the drive. Only just recently being elected to this office, along with the others that they are currently holding. They have only been members of the Chapter for a very short time, but have enjoyed every minute of the time they have had meeting new people and making new friends. Along with the membership of Ronny and Dee they add to the group 7 child memberships with ages from 20-5 years of age. 4 girls and 3 boys make up the numbers .
Ride Educators:
David & Becky Mowen dmowen@nctc.com: David & Becky have been a member of the GWRRA since 2000, although they were originally members of Chapter N from Northern Ky and did not join the Chapter S group until July 2002. Moving to the area and not knowing anything about the meeting places or any of the members in the group Becky did her own research & looked in the Gold Book to find the Chapter Director,Brad Downs, called him and found out where and when they needed to be to join in for the meetings. Upon entering the door to their first meeting, the Corner Cafe' in Westmoreland(where you can find them now), they were placed into the Chapter Educators position and still remain there to this day. Coming to their first meeting wearing the patches from the previous Chapter, also ride educators, did not help them in refusing the position since Chapter S was looking for someone to fill those shoes....fate brought us David & Becky Mowen and we are truly glad of that. They started the Chapter on a 1978-Black GL1000, though they did not change bikes, they did change colors of the bike in 2003 to Camo color, including the colors Blue, Purple & Green. Becky said they painted the bike in their home bathroom with spray paint cans, but the color later changed in 2004 to also give the bike a name known today as "The Green Dragon". Winning Best of Show Antique Class in 2007 at Spring Fling. Becky & David also served as the Chapters Couple of the Year in 2007.
MED's:
Barry & Pam Gann grandmagann1@yahoo.com: Barry & Pam purchased their 1994 White Goldwing 1500 in October of 2006. This was the first bike they had owned in their 27 years of marriage. After several trips and learning on the way, they had discovered the GWRRA website and researched all the Chapters and the meeting times and places in order to find the one that suited them best. In their search they had found that Chapter S was planning their Funday and Bike Show of 2007 in Portland and they thought this was be an opportune time to investigate what the GWRRA was all about. After making the short trip from Lafayette to Portland they soon met with Minnie Dorris and Pat Scott who were one of the first to invite them to the regular meetings. Without hesitation the next month they decided to join in. Joe Scott had passed them a membership form which was completed and ready to send off before the meeting was over. Since joining in July 2007 they have made many trips with their new found "family" and have made new friends all over the place. Some of the stops they have made have been: Bluegrass Blast in Somerset, KY; Spring Fling in Pigeon Forge, Tn; Wing Ding in South Carolina; and several of the other Funday's including the District Picnic in 2007. They were given the title of Chapter S MED's in June 2008.
