Re: House Bill 2208, "An Act Relative To Steam Boilers"
To All:
We can't risk the chance of letting legislators make uninformed decisions on H2208 that will affect our livelihood. We must help them make informed decisions by clearly explaining how our work makes a significant contribution to Public Safety in Massachusetts every day, and why House Bill 2208 is bad for public safety.
"How best can I explain to my legislator how my work contributes to public safety?
To help answer that question, and to serve our purpose in our fight to stop House Bill 2208, I have attached a 3 page PDF document CLICK HERE from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics that describes the work of the operating engineer well enough to "paint a picture" for the legislator and the public.
This literature can be sent out to our legislators, to the Joint Committee on Public Safety, or to the public at large, to help explain the duties and responsibilities of operating engineers across the nation. The reader should then have a better understanding that the work we do is very important to the Massachusetts economy, and that it also underpins, and contributes significantly to public safety and good order. The reader will also get a glimpse of how our work vitally impacts their daily living and how we contribute to their well being in general.
You can hand out, snail mail, or e-mail this US Government document to your representatives and Joint Committee On Public Safety members when making legislative contact with their office regarding House Bill 2208.
Beware, If you choose to inform your legislator electronically (e-mail), I highly recommend calling the office first to make sure that the legislative staff will accept the incoming e-mail attachment, otherwise your e-mail will end up as junk mail and you won't get the message out.

The site provides interesting statistical information and projections on job growth for our industry. There are only about 46,000 Stationary Engineers and Boiler Operators working in the country, yet we help power the nation!)
