Math: We will begin the year with a comprehensive unit focused on number sense, place value, and strategies for addition and subtraction. Be sure to watch the curriculum updates in the weekly newsletter for specific information!
-
Reading: Students entering 3rd grade can read...they can call words on the page and retell basic story events. This year we will focus on digging deeper into texts. The first quarter will focus on learning strategies to become "better readers." The students will learn strategies that good readers use before and during reading. Be sure to watch the curriculum updates in the weekly newsletter for specific information!
-
Writing: The students will be immersed in a student-driven writer's workshop throughout the school year. During 1st quarter we will spend a lot of time developing ideas for writing and establishing the routines for this writer's workshop. Each writing unit will be concluded with a Writer's Celebration! I look forward to seeing you share in your child's writing throughout the year!

Science: We have many exciting science units in 3rd grade...our first unit focuses on "Objects in the Sky". Specifically, we will study the sun, moon, and stars! A special StarLab has been reserved for the end of 1st quarter! Look for more information about our weekly learning in the classroom newsletter!

Social Studies: We are very lucky to have Ms. Day as our track 4, 3rd grade Social Studies teacher. (I will teach all of the science to both classes and Ms. Day will teach all of the Social Studies!) Ms. Day plans to begin with a unit on geography. Look for more information in the weekly newsletter! |
