Objects in the Sky Extension Project

Throughout our study of Objects in the Sky we explored the sun, moon, and stars. To extend your learning, choose one of the following question sets to research by September 11th.

1. Sometimes you can see the planets shining in the early morning, early evening, or nighttime sky.

    1. Which planets can you see without a telescope?
    2. What is their position in the sky?
    3. How can you tell them apart from a star?

2. You have probably heard about comets, asteroids, black holes, and supernovas.

    1. Just what are these objects in the sky?
    2. How could you find out?
    3. What are other objects in the sky that interest you?

3. Many objects in the sky were sent into space by people on planet Earth. Some of those objects are satellites, space probes, and space shuttles.

    1. What do you know about these human-made objects in the sky?
    2. What objects have been sent to study the other planets in the solar system?
    3. What information have they sent back to Earth?
    4. How has this information helped scientists and all of us learn about our solar system?

Please review the rubric before planning your project.
