Book Policies

Chapman Hill students have Library Media instruction weekly and will check-out books once a week during their Library Media class. Kindergarten -1st grades check-out one book weekly. 2nd -5th grades check-out two books weekly unless they need an additional book for classroom research or shared literature instruction. The Library Media Center (LMC) is open from 9:00 AM-3:45 AM daily for additional check-out times. If a student is absent, they can request a pass from their teacher to go check out, renew or return their books, etc..

Permission Slips

Prior to a student checking out a book, all students need to return a permission slip signed by their parent/ guardian and return it to the LMC. The permission slip is an agreement with the LMC stating the student's family will be responsible for lost or damaged materials. Should a parent not want materials brought home, their student is welcome to check-out  books and leave them in the classroom.

How to care for a book

  • Hands need to be clean and dry when you're around books.

  • Protect books from the rain. Please use plastic bags or backpacks to transport books to and from school. Water is the #1 villain when it comes to books because they grow mold after they get wet.

  • Keep food and drink away from books. (Keep your books in a plastic bag separated from the juice/water bottles).

  • Keep books away from younger siblings, in a special place, to avoid scribbling and writing.

  • Keep books off of the floor to avoid walking on them

  • Turn upper right-hand page of book to avoid ripped pages.

  • Please do not swap books with anyone!
The person checking out the book is responsible for the book.

  • If you have an accident with a book, please bring it to the LMC and, if possible, we will repair it.

  • Return books to the homeroom teacher's book return box  or to the LMC's book return bin.

  • Remember: books need to be returned to the LMC on the day before your child's book check-out.
