Inclusive Church in Ireland

Welcoming and Open Congregations in Ireland

Changing Attitude Ireland now offers a listing of churches as being Welcoming and Open Congregations. These are Church of Ireland and other congregations where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered Christians can be guaranteed a welcome. The congregations listed will have discussed their desire to express support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered Christians at a Select Vestry / Parochial Council / Kirk Session / Leaders Board meeting and have passed a resolution agreeing to be so listed. There is no charge for this listing service.

Registering as a Welcoming and Open Congregation -

If your church would like to be listed, please first read and consider the issues in the Welcome and Open Congregations brochure below. You may adapt it freely to suit local needs. Then when your local church committee has passed the appropriate resolution, send an email to  changingattudeireland@hotmail.co.uk  asking to become a Welcoming Congregation. Please state your church name, location and service times. We will maintain the listing. Do remember to let us know of any changes.

An Inclusive Church Poster is attached below for your use. When you print the poster you may wish to add the CAI website address www.changingattitudeireland.org or "in association with Changing Attitude Ireland"  or the CAI logo (available on request).

We acknowledge the generous assistance of our friends at Inclusive Church http://www.inclusivechurch2.net/  and Changing Attitude England http://www.changingattitude.org.uk/welcong/welcongs.asp in helping us develop this service for Ireland.

Whoever you are and wherever you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome in this place. We are an inclusive Christian community in the Anglican tradition in the heart of Cork seeking to serve God, follow Christ, and change the world. Starting with ourselves.

We trust in the Spirit of God who opens up new and liberating ways to experience the love of God. We are welcoming of both human experience and human diversity. We are committed to using the Bible seriously, and seek to understand it in the light of that same experience and diversity, and of what this age knows and Biblical writers did not, and could not, know. We are committed to a Church that conveys the Christian message in signs and symbols, especially in the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist. We are committed to taking all people seriously – married and single people, gay and straight, those who have a natural faith and those who struggle with belief. We are committed to identifying and affirming what is good and identifying and opposing what is evil, and living as best we can in the confusion in the middle.

We affirm that the Church's mission, in obedience to Holy Scripture, is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in every generation.

We acknowledge that this is Good News for people regardless of their sex, race or sexual orientation.

We believe that, in order to strengthen the Gospel's proclamation of justice to the world, and for the greater glory of God, the Church's own common life must be justly ordered.

To that end, we call on our Church to live out the promise of the Gospel; to celebrate the diverse gifts of all members of the body of Christ; and in the ordering of our common life to open the ministries of deacon, priest and bishop to those so called to serve by God, regardless of their sex, race or sexual orientation
