The Futures Planning Study Group half day workshop was held on Wednesday at NACON this year to study ways to plan for the future by implementation of action plans today. The workshop consisted of five groups of Auxiliarist’s with each group having around 11 members assigned to make recommendations based on a future scenario where the boating public, the recreational boating industry, the Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Auxiliary might find themselves in the year 2013. The participants include the (3) National Area Commodores, (16) District Commodores, (16) Vice Commodores, (10) Department Chiefs, and (10) Deputy Department Chiefs. This diverse group will provide a wide range of professional knowledge along with a perspective based on where the participant lives in the country.
The five groups focus was on Public Education, Operations, Recruiting/Retention, Recreational Boating Safety and the Auxiliary in 2013. These five areas have the greatest impact on the Auxiliary and action plans initiated with the new incoming leadership will help them decide on a plan of action for the future.
The workshop did develop strategic concepts to meet the challenges presented. This process will enable the senior leadership a way forward for the Auxiliary to begin planning the necessary changes for the Auxiliary to remain a viable institution in the environment envisioned in 2013. Now that the strategic concepts are devised, they will be organized and submitted to the National Executive Committee for review and prioritization. The National Executive Committee will then decide the best path forward. The Auxiliary Leadership will then execute the strategic plan and begin implementation through out the Auxiliary. |
