The Futures Planning Study Group half-day workshop will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20 as a part of the Operating Committee meeting preceding NACON year to plan for the future of the Auxiliary.  The workshop consist of five groups of Auxiliaristʼs with each group having around 11 members assigned to make recommendations based on a future scenario where the boating public, the recreational boating industry, the Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Auxiliary might find themselves in the year 2013.  The participants include the (3) National Area Commodores, (16) District Commodores, (16) Vice Commodores, (10) Department Chiefs, and (10) Deputy Department Chiefs.  This diverse group will provide a wide range of professional knowledge along with a perspective based on where the participant lives in the country.

The workshopʼs goal is to develop strategic concepts to meet the challenges presented in a made up world five years from today.  This process will provide the senior leadership with possibilities for ways forward so the Auxiliary can begin planning the necessary changes now for the Auxiliary to remain a viable institution in the environment envisioned in 2013.

Once the strategic concepts are recognized, they will be organized and submitted to the National Executive Committee for review and prioritization.  If accepted by the Auxiliary leadership, they would oversee implementation throughout the Auxiliary.

2009 Public Affairs AUX-12 C Schools will be held in Miami, Houston, Seattle, and Alameda during February, March, April, and May.
