All of us should avoid "personalizing" cancer by referring to it as "YOUR" cancer, "MY" cancer, "HIS/HER" cancer, etc.

Diseases do not "belong" to us, we don't "own" them, and they are not our possessions.

If a foreign army invades your country, you don't call it "your" army. You don't say, "My army is giving me trouble today," or "My army just invaded Texas," or "How's your army today?" For the same reason, you should not claim a disease as "your" disease.

Cancer cells are foreign to your body. They have turned against you. They are a revolutionary, invading force, a threat that is trying to take your country---your body away from you, a threat that is trying to kill you. These cells that once were yours, are no longer. They constitute a foreign invader, the same as any other disease.

Cancer is no more "your" disease than a foreign army that lands on the shores of your country and attacks your vital cities.

Personalizing a disease is a primary technique used by advertising, marketing, and promotional agencies---as well as doctors and other medical providers---to sell product and services, especially in the medical industry.

If I can get you to personalize a disease, to internalize an emotional connection with it, to make it your "own" disease by claiming that it's "yours," I stand a much better chance of selling you surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or whatever I'm pitching at the time. After all, would you rather cure "cancer," or would you rather cure "YOUR" cancer...? Go figure.

How many times have you heard it on TV?

"Is YOUR cancer making you...; try..."
"Is YOUR chemotherapy causing...? Try new..."
"Does YOUR asthma keep you awake at night?"
"Don't let YOUR arthritis stop you from.."

You get it, and it goes on and on.
So, stop saying things like:

"MY bone cancer is worse, etc."
"MY breast cancer is..."
"How's YOUR lung cancer today?"
"BOB'S colon cancer is..."
"The doctor said MY skin cancer..."
"MY mesothelioma is..."

I worked as a lighting director in the television industry for fifteen years, and I know that advertising, marketing, and promotional agencies don't mindlessly use that kind of language in commercial content; they use it in an attempt to get you to "personalize," and develop an emotional connection with, the disease they reference so they can play on that internalization to sell you product.

Most people don't pay much attention to it, but we are drilled and grilled constantly with this tactic by those who prey on the sick and their pocketbook with this extremely powerful and effective emotional weapon.

We are so conditioned by this ploy that it's even rampant in alternative cancer treatment circles, unconsciously used by people with good intentions who don't give its disastrous implications a second thought.

I know of one particular instance of this in regard to a cancer herbal remedy that's on the market, another in relation to a company that sells ozone, oxygen, and infrared (IFR) products, and you see it often in books---on the cover!

Cancer is not "YOUR" cancer.

Break yourself from unconsciously programming your subconscious with this self-defeating internalization.

And don't let anyone else around you refer to it as "your cancer" when they speak with you.

Politely tell then that it's not "your" cancer and that you don't like to refer to it as "your" or "my" cancer because that kind of verbalization internalizes an unhealthy emotional connection that works against your attempt to cure cancer---find your own words.

And if a doctor EVER refers to it as "your" cancer, correct her/him immediately with the same courteous explanation.
