Designer Showcase Dining Room Designed by Ceron Martin Design +Events Decidedly Coastal...was the decorating philosophy for my room at the Yuletide Designer Showcase house. I wanted to offer unique ideas for mixing natural elements found abundantly(and free) in "fields and along our shorelines" to deck the halls with for Christmas. My aim was to demonstrate how to combine traditional holiday "glitz" with a coastal attitude to achieve an elegant, unruffled holiday mood that was organic yet very luxurious. And to show how tailoring holiday decor to fit a coastal lifestyle does not mean you have to forego tradition. My intent was to embrace and embellish the dining room's traditional furnishings and historic architecture with an infusion of coastal accents giving the room sumptuous seaside shimmer. I started by combining traditional holiday sparkle with coastal elements such as oysters and shell-art to give the room a whimsical take on standard holiday-glam. The decorations utilized earthy elements such as natural greenery, stalks of fresh Brussel Sprouts, flowers, oysters and sea shells, all organic elements, intermixed with opulent touches such as the 1800's Bavarian fish plates, gold monogrammed china, 1892 silver pattern featuring dolphins and the mother-of-pearl dessert set to give the fancy holiday gathering it's polished coastal overtones. By using a neutral palette of golds, silvers and creams it also provided a sophistication that is without question dressy but in a whimsical coastal sort of way. As a designer, I strive to make space "extraordinarily personal". I think a table top is the perfect place to let your personality come out! After all, great entertaining is never just about food - it's about the spectacle of the presentation, too! Yuletide Tour of Historic Homes in Georgetown, SC is sponsored each year by Friend of the Library who open for tour some of the grandest homes in Georgetown, plus a Designer Showcase.
