Project Background

The Legler Benbough Foundation, Jacobs Center of Neighborhood Innovation (JCNI) and the San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA) are working to create a two-way cultural bridge that connects southeastern San Diego residents and artists with Balboa Park arts institutions.  The vision for the Center for Community Arts includes innovative collaborations between arts institutions, formal and informal arts groups, artists, residents, and local organizations; engaging new audiences; providing work opportunities for artists; and, developing a space at JCNI where arts and traditions from many cultures will be honored and celebrated.  Programming in this space as well as in Balboa Park arts institutions will help to create understanding across cultural, generational and socio-economic boundaries and foster dialogues that examine and address social issues.
