The Fertility King
The Fertility King
Regally presiding over his verdant royal lilypond, obviously this lucky fellow must be the King of something or other, although I can't imagine Disney rushing to issue a musical about him for family audiences. With that in mind, lately I've been thinking it might be fun to author an original musical play based on the colorful exploits of this clearly iconic figure. Envision, if you will, an epic tale of magic, romance and economic stimulus that seamlessly hybridizes the most compelling elements of "The Lion King", "Pinocchio", "The Taming of the Shrew", and "Lysistrata" in the visually captivating Cook Islands. Not being much of a songwriter, I've considered seeking clearances to use other people's tunes in the work, possibly "Norwegian Wood" by the Beatles and, uh, "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg. Reckon Disney will want to pick up the option on this project? Oh, and did I mention that you probably wouldn't see this sort of thing in Samoa? :)

Rarotonga, Cook Islands, 18 Sept 2007 - A Humpback whale swims past the Cook Island whale research boat, enjoying the warm water and the protected reefs of Rarotonga. Whales are being satellite tagged to produce vital data on their movements, habitat use, and population structure, as part of a project called "The Great Whale Trail".
