Trusting in the Lord

 7"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
     whose trust is the LORD.
8  He is like a tree planted by water,
     that sends out its roots by the stream,
   and does not fear when heat comes,
     for its leaves remain green,
   and is not anxious in the year of drought,
     for it does not cease to bear fruit."    - Jeremiah 17:7-8

We live in a world where we are constantly told to be independent and rely on ourselves to succeed. It is hard to divorce this world-view from our Christian life, and although we may say we trust God to over-rule in our lives and trust him in his salvation plan, if we are not trusting him in the little things, like work, relationships and family, how much must this affect our trust in Him for the big things, such as who we are in Christ, and matters of eternity? How much are we rooted in the Lord and in his word, so that when the heat comes, we will not wither and cease to bear fruit?
When a busy day comes, are we relying on ourselves and 'our strength' to get through it, or the Lord's?

Martin Luther (one of the main reformers of the 16th century) used to say this: “I am going to be so busy today, I have to spend not one hour, but two hours in prayer, before I can do anything else.”
