But Me She Forgot

posted 24 Nov 2011 07:12 by Peter Booth   [ updated 24 Nov 2011 07:14 ]
"...but me she forgot."
Four striking and painful words found in the book of Hosea - the words and theme are repeated throughout the book. As Gomer was adulterous towards Hosea, so Israel was towards God, and so we are in our sin everyday - denying who we are and who God is, and rejecting what he has done for us through Jesus Christ.

"It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
   taking them by the arms;
but they did not realise
   it was I who healed them."
Israel did not recognise all that the Lord had done for them, and they did not honour him as a Father.

The Lord says,
   “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness;
      my love will know no bounds,
      for my anger will be gone forever.
The Lord keeps promising throughout the book to bring Israel back to himself; part of that promise was looking ahead to the cross at Calvary. We have the benefit of hindsight and we can look back to the cross, having a faith in God faithfulness to bring us home.

Wang Qing has kindly put together this short 2-page Bible study looking mainly at chapters 10 and 11 of Hosea. Download it, have a read, and think about what the passage meant for Israel at the time of Hosea, and what it means for you now.
