(Please scroll down to see the most recent entries in this column) You may be wondering how I arrive at your grade each nine weeks. There are three parts: vocabulary, writing and grammar/literature(depending on which we're covering at the time). That means all of your vocabulary grades will be averaged together to get one vocabulary grade, all of your writing grades will be averaged together to get one writing grade, and all of your grammar/literature grades will be averaged together to get one grammar/literature grade. If you have a 100% in vocabulary( and trust me, many students do), an 80% in writing(you'll do better than that), and a 90% in grammar/literature, your English grade for that particular nine weeks will be 90%. AND ABOUT YOUR HOMEWORK, yes it is important. It will be taken up for credit possibly 20 or 25 times each grading period and one grade will be earned as if it were a test grade; that will be averaged in with the grammar/literature grades, so if you're wondering what you can do for extra credit ? DO YOUR HOMEWORK! There are also some in-class activities which will be averaged in with that. During the second grading period I will accept late homework provided it is turned in the very next school day. Students with excused absences, please arrange with me a reasonable time within which I can expect your work. Third grading period please have work turned in by the end of the day on which I take it up. Fourth grading period, work is due when I ask for it, unless there has been an excused absence; please arrange with me a reasonable time frame within which I can expect your work.
