Application deadline - June 1, 2012 All connected with the Workers Health & Safety Centre are committed to education - education in the workplace and beyond. To this end the WHSC has long offered student scholarships for post secondary education. Funds for these scholarships are raised from the annual Cliff Pilkey/WHSC Invitational Golf Tournament in honour of our president emeritus. Each year the WHSC sponsors a competition aimed at raising occupational health and safety awareness among students and other young workers. Scholarships are awarded to the winners.

The Hank Byrne Foundation Bursary
Students must have one
(or two) parents who are deceased, and have limited financial resources.
The student must be a graduate of any one of the eight secondary
schools within the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.

Dr. Albert Rose Bursary program was established in 1984 by the Ontario
Mortgage and Housing Corporation to help public housing tenants with the
costs of a postsecondary education. The program is named in honour of
the late Dr. Albert Rose who dedicated his life’s work to education and
social housing. The Dr. Albert Rose Bursary is a one-time only award
program. All members of rent-geared-to-income households in Ontario,
including those living in social housing, non-profit, co-op, and private
rent supplement units, can receive a bursary award, as long as they
meet the eligibility requirements. You will need to ask your social
housing provider for a letter that confirms you are a member of a
rent-geared-to-income household.

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame/Great-West Life, London Life, and Canada Life Scholarship Program This scholarship opportunity is available to high school students who are aspiring to a career in medicine or the health sciences. The value of the scholarship is $1000 per year toward a four-year undergraduate degree at any accredited Canadian university. Four scholarship recipients will be selected each year, one from each of the following geographic regions: 1) Western provinces (AB BC MB SK); 2) Ontario; 3) Quebec; 4) Atlantic provinces and Territories (NB NL NS PE NT NU YT). Scholarship recipients are chosen based on academic excellence, awards and recognition, extra-curricular activities and community service, and evidence of interest in pursuing an education and career in medical/health sciences. Application deadline - June 15th The Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship is designed to recognize students who have shown academic excellence at the high school level and to assist students with financial need. Students who have achieved the best marks at Ontario high schools will be recognized and celebrated through this scholarship. Winners may receive a scholarship worth up to a maximum of $3,500 per year. Students who keep their grades up can receive the scholarship for up to four years. This scholarship is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that a postsecondary education is accessible and affordable.

Ron Ianni Community and Scholastic Achievement Award
To honour the memory of Dr. Ron Ianni, former President of the University of Windsor, and to recognize his dedication to education and commitment to the community. These awards will be given annually to one student from the Greater Essex County District School board and one student from the Windsor-Essex County District School Board. This award is given to a University of Windsor student with outstanding volunteer and leadership activities.

This award is granted to a college or university bound student pursuing studies related to law enforcement, financial need, outstanding school and community involvement.

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is pleased to offer two scholarships, each
in the amount of $500.00, for the University school term beginning the Fall of
2011. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2011 from any Windsor or
Essex County grade 12 student who will be attending an Engineering faculty at an
Ontario University accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board
(CEAB). Preference will be given based upon academics, extracurricular
activities, community service and interest in pursuing a career in engineering
as a licensed Professional Engineer. Please fill out the following application
form and submit with it your school transcript and an essay explaining why you
want to become a Professional Engineer. Letters from references are also
welcome.
