WALK-A-THON
2009
Cedar Creek Elementary is holding it’s third annual Walk-a-Thon, Friday, September 11th, during your child’s school day. Mark your calendars! All details, including: a schedule of the event, pledge packets, and an opportunity to sign-up to volunteer on the day of the Walk-a-Thon will be distributed at our Meet the Teacher Nights (Tuesday, August 25th and Thursday, August 27th at 6:30 p.m.). In addition, you will receive a weekly newsletter that will keep you updated on all aspects of the Walk-a-Thon.
The Walk-a-Thon is intended to be our only fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $25,000. That would be approximately $50 in pledges from each child. Participation is not mandatory; however, we need this event to be successful. 100% of all money earned stays at Cedar Creek and benefits your children.
Why a walk-a-thon? This event will encourage all students to take an active role in raising funds for their school. Also, it teaches students of all ages that exercising is fun and healthy. They will be able to walk, jog, or even run for their allotted time spot.
As part of the Walk-a-Thon, the students will be eligible for fun prizes for participating and obtaining donations.
- The pledge packets are due September 8th. However, all students who turn in their pledges early, by September 2, 2009, will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich or 8 piece chicken nuggets.
- At the end of the walk-a-thon, all students will receive a snack and a toe token (similar to the “dog tags” given to the students last year when they were a soaring comet.)
Donation level prizes
$1 - $49.99 A CCE book bag tag
$50.00 - $99.99 A CCE book bag tag, and a CCE water bottle
$100 and greater A CCE book bag tag, and a CCE water bottle, & a CCE drawstring bag.
- The highest donator in each class will get to have lunch with their teacher and a friend.
- The highest donator in each grade will get to dunk a teacher! (They can choose to dunk either Mr. Iles, Mr. Danker, Mr. Rundberg, or Mr. Laffoon!)
Raffle baskets
- Students will be able to earn raffle tickets for each lap they complete. The students will be able to enter their raffle tickets for the baskets they hope to win. Last year we were able to make 60 baskets! We’ll make as many baskets as we can from the donations we receive. We will make sure that each basket will go to different children, so that more children can win. (No one will be able to win more than one basket.) There are 500 students in the school so not every child will win a raffle basket. However, your student’s chances of winning will increase by earning more tickets!
- We have assigned each grade a “theme” and we ask that families donate an item related to the theme assigned to you child’s grade. We will take all the donated items and make really neat baskets of prizes the students can try to win. We will collect items in your child’s pod or classroom from August 24 – September 8. We will display the baskets the week of the walk-a-thon.
