Christmas tunes

posted ‎‎Oct 16, 2009 7:48 PM‎‎ by John Parker

Hi fellow Immersions.  I’ve been stumbling through my library and have come up with seven songs that could be interesting for us.

The Magnificent Seven…  anybody know that movie?  Krista, ask Sweetums about it, it’s awesome.   I’ll bet he likes Tombstone, too, one of my favorite movies and best movie quotes ever.  I’m your huckleberry.

Anyway, I digress… go here for links to the songs.

Practice tonight

posted ‎‎Oct 1, 2009 6:00 AM‎‎ by John Parker

Yes, I do think we should get together tonight if that works for everyone.  I am home, so can come any time, stay until whenever.  I'll pick out the songs for Sunday today and contact Anna Ruth around 5-6pm, so I'll have all the info for Sunday ready to go.  I will email it to you as soon as it's finalized (just in case Allen says, "Hey, I should really play my bongo drum on *that* song!"  Which would. by the way, be pretty cool.)  Special for Sunday is Lay 'Em Down.  You two are probably going to have to figure out the chords if you want the lead sheet annotated that way, since all I was able to find are tabs.  I will bring lyrics sheet and tabs.  Hope to see you tonight!

Andy, can you comment on this post so I can check to see if I'm receiving email updates?  I don't think I am for comments, only for announcements.  It looks to me like there's just one "setting" and that's to click the button that says "subscribe to site changes".  I did that (again) and got the message "You will be notified when changes are made to this site."  It might actually work, since NOW the link says "unsubscribe to site changes", which it didn't before.  Thanks!!

Response to Allen's post (so John can receive it)

Good morning folks,

I can practice "most any evening".  I'm in shop Sat. and we have house calls Fri till about 5:00.

Are we meeting tonight at 7:00?  I can stay late but Andy may have kids.

I can't stand suspense,  what is the special song?  What should I play:  Guitar, drum or mando. (listed in decreasing ability, which ain't saying a lot!)

Practice special?

posted ‎‎Sep 30, 2009 10:33 PM‎‎ by John Parker

Allen and Andy -
Would you have time to get together for 30-45 minutes to practice the special for Sunday?  I am going to figure out the songs and probably use a DVD for the other music on Sunday since Jeremy will be out.  We can always practice early Sunday morning, but Saturday or a weekday evening would work too, and I would prefer it because I'm nervous! - JP

Wow it's nice to see the chater again. Just wanted to say that Sundays music was totally God's plan. He did it again using you guys and girl. Great job!!! Love ya all. Can't wait to sit in again with ya on the 11th.

Shout out

I just want to say how great it was having Allen back with the band on Thursday night at the Back To School Bash party, and again on Sunday.  Allen - We missed you and it was impressive how you just jumped right back in and nailed the songs.  Nice work!

A&J - We have some work to do on the microphone situation.  The Sunday fiasco with cascading microphone failures was potentially embarrassing.  Thank goodness we had a bunch of calm, cool, professionals up there who just took it all in stride!  Final score: God 1,000,000 / The Punk 0.

Recording

Moving my reply to Andy's response to my "I need a clue entry" below to the front page so it hits people's emails.....

Thanks, Andy.  Recording is easy enough.  We have the choir mics above the stage, and we can put a mic out on the floor.  It's not hard to record it or edit it.  It is a bit tricky to set the channel recording levels to reflect what you're actually hearing in the sanctuary -- two independent sets of volume controls.  But very doable.  I will set it up after church on Sunday, and you guys can record Monday evening.  I will be in Montreal again.

Hey folks,

I am blessed with too much work to do!   Unfortunately I don't have time to think about music until after 3:30 tomorrow.  Then i'll be wondering what is happening Sunday morn for music.  Jeremy mentioned the need for Andy and I to make some noise and lost of folks said they were not going to be in town (I cant remember who).  Just thought i'd try and start some dialogue...

Here's what i know so far:

There will be at least 1 baby dedicated.
It will be cold if the weather's cold as the furnace is out.

I Need a Clue

posted ‎‎Apr 14, 2009 1:14 PM‎‎ by John Parker

Yes, it's true, I am clueless.  I missed the last two practices due to business travel (and will miss next Monday's as well), so I don't have anything approaching a set list.  There was a MercyMe song mentioned but I don't remember the name, and I can remember only 4 of the 6 we attempted last night.  It doesn't look like the "Songs" page here has been updated - no new postings and the ones marked as current set list are from the performance a month ago...  a little help please?
