China Earthquake Relief

The Chinese Canadian Association of Kingston and District raised $26,354.00 for the China Earthquake Relief in the last two weeks and the donation has been forwarded to the local Red Cross office on June 3. We would like to thank the Kingston community for their generosity. Be assured that the fund we raised will be used to help the victims of the recent earthquake in Sichuan. The Chinese students at Queen’s University independently raised more than $9,000 for the earthquake relieve fund. Their contribution has been forwarded to the Chinese Embassy and will be used to rebuild damaged schools.

History

The CCKAD was founded under charter by the Canadian federal government in 1979. Since its inception in October 1977, our organization has become a recognized representative of the Chinese population in the district. We have contributed in many ways to the local community: participation in the Folklore Festival, sponsorship of Vietnamese boat people refugees, donation of hospital equipment and rooms to Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu hospital, supply of cultural materials to local libraries and schools, donations to disaster relief funds, and assitance of funding to local Chinese heritage schools.
