Physical siteBloggers informationStblogs is a wordpress based blogging community, and one of the largest Catholic blogging services on the internet. It pays bloggers portions of earnings from advertising, when they are successful, and carefully watches it's advertisements, which on the day of our review, where monitored, and bad adverts were reportable. We have had swift response, when reporting an advert showing via google adwords. The site makes advertising earnings via Adwords. They also are linked to a catholic freebees/competition site: http://catholicfreebies.com/.
Spam filteringThe blogs can access askimet's spam filter, which is very successful at filtering out spam.
ServiceThis service is known for it's quick aid to bloggers, and also has help forums.
Use of servicesThe St.Blogs community has many powerful Catholic blogs, news features, and a list of well used blogs on the front page, as well as updates. Some blogs may well publish less quality information, or even non-catholic information, as this is a community, and has many authors, however, in general, and in our experience, most, if not all the blogs are generally useful. The blogs are shown on the front page when updated (not always immediately).
Also, the sites here are either Catholic, or of such natures, with a speciality service. IE. A speciality Catholic blogging service.
There is not to the same extent the danger of linking to disreputable/adult or other blogs, as one sometimes is faced with on some blogging services, as this is a Catholic Speciality service, and we would advise use of this a a community to those who are planning to read, or create Catholic blogs.
Our verdict on siteThis is a well-meaning, brilliant blogging community. The faults lie in the ability of low-bandwidth users to view blogs on this site, especially, as some dial-up computers cannot access pages. The advantage is a wonderful collection of just about purely Catholic, or similar blogs.
Some blogs we recommend in Stblogs include our own :as well as the following apologetical blogs-but also
http://catholicinfilmschool.stblogs.com // honest, catholic film reviews.
and for a laugh
FaultsBandwidth, site is not always updated.
StrengthsContent- this isn't a cradle catholic santuary, there are many dynamic, notable blogs here.
Some warning with bloggingWe consider obejectivity vital to reviews, therein, just as in other articles, we looked for flaws.
The site cannot control what free-minded bloggers say, but this may influence viewer, and is the reason why we do not post all blogs from stblogs in our search engine for your use:
There has been talk, by church officials, about blogging, being a front for the loudest voice. While we don't hear every bishop in the church, just his position, if he's speaking logically. To a degree we agree on such- popular blogs, aren't always the best blogs, a blog post we found unspecific, and disagreed with was
A blog is personal, and isn't always goodhttp://terry58.stblogs.com/2008/01/08/the-antichrist-2/
There were not specifics, and our comments are noted, but perhaps we are too harsh against this, but naming Islam in a post "The antichrist 2" doesn't seem catholic- it seems like crying wolf. We say this in that this blog is popular via page hits and external awards, inside, and outside of this community, but clearly seems to not have read up on all their facts. Also, it reminds us too heavily of "Revelation 17" (See "against heresy" in middle of page) attacks on us, yes there may be human rights abuses in countries with some rulers, but the Dutch Reformed backed, Apartheid government in South Africa, also did many things in the name of religion. I could say- Protestant Dutch Reformed church, but then again, the Anglicans, like the Catholics apposed Apartheid, and this would be considered wrong judgement, or be misinterpreted, by some.
Despite critisism, we enjoy the stblogs serviceDespite such content, every now and again, and some people with specific causes (good and bad), we see stblogs, as a must read online, and would advise using it's site.
