How to Use‎ > ‎

File Mode - Advanced

In Advanced Corpora Handling File Mode, you can create group(s) of files, which is called Corpus in CasualConc to manage your corpus files.  You can select more than one corpora for your analysis.

To switch to Advanced Corpora Handling Mode, go to Preferences -> General -> Corpora Handling and select Advanced.

Close the Preferences window and you will see the File view changed.  You might want to restart CasualConc to fix some layout issues.

Creating a new corpus

Once in Advanced mode, select files/folders to include in a new corpus by clicking Add File(s) button just as you selected files/folders for your analysis in Simple File Mode. (You can also add files by drag&drop the files on to this table)

You will be prompted to select file(s)/folder(s) to add to the list table (upper right table).

The selected files will be added to the table.  Change the text encodings if you want to.

If you want to add more files, repeat the same process.

Now, you can create a corpus with the selected files.  Click Create New button.

You will be prompted to name a corpus.

Because of the way corpora are managed by CasualConc, you can only use standard alpha-numeric characters for corpus names.  Spaces will be replaced by under-bars and if you use illegal characters, you will see the following warning message.

Once the new corpus is created, it will be added to the corpora list.

Check the box next to the corpus you want to analyze and start your analysis!

There are a few more things you can do in this mode.

Finally, click Add Files from Add List button at the left bottom corner of the window to add selected files to the selected corpus.

You can delete files from the selected corpus.  Simply select file(s) on the lower left table and click Delete File(s) from Selected Corpus/Database button.
