About the Club
Castlebar Athletic Club caters mainly for juvenile athletes aged 9 to 19 years . However, in the case of athletes aged 9 aned 10 at least one parent or adult guardian is expected to remain for the entire duration of training sessions to supervise and assist in training the younger athletes. The Club is mainly concerned with the competitive side of athletics but welcomes those who wish to take part for recreational purposes only, provided their parents attend training sessions and assist in organising and supervising activities for them.
The Club participates in Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field and also Cross-country events. It caters for all standard athletic disciplines with the exception of Pole Vault. The Indoor Competition Season begins with the Mayo Championships in late January/early February, followed by Connaught Championships in late February/early March and AAI National Championships over two week-ends in late March/early April. The outdoor Juvenile Track and Field competitions begin with the Mayo Championships in May, followed by the Connaught Championships in June and the AAI National Juvenile Championships in July. It is not necessary for under 13s to under 19s to compete in the Mayo Championships to enter the Connaught Championships but it is necessary to compete and qualify in the Connaught Championships to enter the AAI National Juvenile Championships.
Club athletes also compete in Schools Championships and, subject to qualification, International competitions. The dates on which some of these competitions will be held in 2010 are given in the Events table below. Athletes qualify for the All-Ireland Schools Championships through a regional (Mayo. Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon) qualifying round and then through reaching a specified placing (at least third for some events and at least fourth for others)in the Connaught Championships.

Athletes who were Club members in 2010, and those wishing to join for the first time in 2011, can obtain Membership Application Forms for 2011 at any training session. Applications for 2011 membership will be accepted at a Registration Night in The Welcome Inn Hotel between 7.00 and 8.00 PM on Tuesday 8 February, or at any training session in Breaffy GAA Sportshall.
Membership fees are:
One Athlete €50.
Two athletes from same family €75.
Three or more athletes from same family €100.
New members must submit COPIES of their Birth Certificates with their application forms and fees. Existing members do not need to re-sumit copies of their Birth Certificates.

2011 MAYO INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
| The Mayo Indoor Championships will not be held this year in Nenagh, as had been the practice for a long number of years. They will be held instead in Claremorris on 13 February. As the laying of tartan on the indoor facility in Claremorris was delayed due to the cold weather only a few events (High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Putt) will be held indoors. The running events will be held on the outdoor track but athletes will have the use of the indoor facility for check-in, assembly etc. |
