University Freemasonry in Leicestershire

EMAIL SECRETARY@CASTLE7767.CO.UK FOR MORE DETAILS, WE'D LOVE TO SHOW YOU AROUND FREEMASON'S HALL

Welcome to the website of Castle of Leicester Lodge No.7767.

You visit us at an exciting time for the Lodge, as we continue to grow under the guise of the Universities Scheme with a focus on recruiting a new younger generation of Freemasons, as well as being the Lodge for students, staff and alumni of De Montfort University. If you are interested in joining them, or simply want to find out more about Freemasonry then do get in touch!

Our members come from all walks of life, be they young or old, students, staff or employed elsewhere, or just those with a keen interest in pursuing Freemasonry in Leicestershire.

We have a vibrant membership and are keen to help our younger members develop and to gain the maximum enjoyment from being a Freemason.

For De Montfort University students, whilst the normal minimum age for joining Freemasonry is 21, this is reduced to 18. In addition, our subscriptions are also reduced for all those aged 25 or under.

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Its roots lie in the traditions and ceremonies of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Some rituals are still celebrated today.

VALUES

Freemasonry has always been about making good men better. Individuals aim to shape their lives round five core principles.

  • Integrity: We say what we mean and we keep our promises.

  • Kindness: Although our families come first, we believe in playing a key role in our communities and give time and money to charitable ventures.

  • Honesty: We pride ourselves on openness, about what being a Freemason means for us.

  • Fairness: We treat everyone as equal – we listen to others, explore any differences and look for common ground.

  • Tolerance: We respect the opinions of others and behave with understanding towards them.

IS FREEMASONRY FOR ME?

Freemasonry means different things to each individual – making new friends, contributing to society, celebrating a long tradition, experiencing personal growth, taking up a hobby, having fun.

If you are interested in joining Freemasonry you will find lots of useful information on the Craft, including a Frequently Asked Questions section, and details on the Universities Scheme which aims to encourage younger people to join Masonry.

We are always happy to spend time talking to students about the fraternity, dispelling many of the myths you may have come across, and also to give you a tour of Freemasons' Hall on London Road, Leicester. Come and discover the truth behind the mystery!
