Auntie Soon

An old cheerful looking lady we spotted in a house when we were walking along some stretch of old shophouses. She smiled at us as if welcoming us to take pictures of her. When we asked her daughter who was there at that time she gladly allowed us to take her mother’s pictures. She moved the old lady’s chair and poker cards over to the front door where the lighting was brighter as the plump Auntie Soon slowly walked over and rested herself on her new position and started putting her hands on the pokers cards. Her daughter told us that her mother just had a haircut as the weather was rather hot. She was treating her like little child as what it seemed. But as we started chatting with Auntie Soon while photographing her she started to tell us stories about herself during the times of the World War II when the Japanese invaded Malaysia (known as Malaya then). Her memory was like fresh as yesterday when she told us about those days and the hardship people endured during the war. She even sang us a song, which I could not understand its meaning. Tears were seen in her eyes. She said she could speak a bit of Japanese as well. Mother and daughter agree to disagree on their choices of new sleepwear. There is a funny story to this one... Danica actually did want the set she is touching in this picture. It's a set of pajamas supposedly for boys, with sharks on them. She kept coming back to them no matter how many times we put them back on the rack. Mom liked the set on the floor better, which is supposedly for girls and covered in cherries. Dad exercised veto power, and we bought neither.
