Rock Paper Scissors
Rock Paper Scissors
This shirt has been passed (ha! passed! more like stolen) among our siblings ever since I first discovered it on the laundry table in our basement when I was in high school. It was the favorite shirt of each of us; whoever was in possession of it at the time loved it most. The mythology is that it once belonged to an old boyfriend of my mother's, but the reality is that it probably belonged to one of the college women who babysat us or lived with us until their summer housing cleared. It's the softest, most well-worn shirt any of us has ever owned, and last night, all of us finally in the same room after being spread across continents for years, we nearly shredded it deciding who would take it home. My brother had had it in his possession for years now, and felt it belonged to him, whereas I was laying claim for having discovered it in the first place. At some point someone shouted out "all property is theft!" This is my family. We argue like that. So we had a dance off for it. Not really. We played Rock Paper Scissors for it. I won. I knew I'd only ever wear it to scrub the bathtub, so I relished the victory for a moment (I was happy enough to be left with the credit for discovering it in the first place; as John said, "that's so Zan"), then had John and Kate play each other for it. Kate won, and John mourned his loss. Sorry John, but look at our sister: you and I are just paper and scissors; Kate ROCKS that shirt.

It took me about two weeks of working on this periodically (at work) when talking on the phone to employees, customers, girlfriends, family, etc... This is one sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper, hand "shredded" using a pair of scissors to to achieve particles the size of a grain of salt. You can't see the small pieces very well, but they're in there.
