Welcome from the Secretary-General
Esteemed Delegates,
It is my distinct honor and privilege to welcome you the 19th Annual Carolina’s Conference hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on October 23rd and 24th 2009.
Let me begin by thanking each and everyone of you for participating in the first fee-free conference on the east coast. This year we have adopted the ideology of a “free and prosperous tomorrow,” a concept that we encourage everyone to embark upon during such challenging economic hardships. This conference is designed and intended to be conducted as an educational simulation in preparation for future conferences. Participating in Model United Nations conferences allows for students with common interests to unite in understanding global conflicts while crafting legitimate solutions to these challenges. In the process, we are able to broaden ourselves when encountering differences of opinions, by compromising with other delegations, and in joining with opposing sides to create a solution to alleviate a plethora of obstacles. Thus, we acquire and build upon the stepping stones of self improvement with life skills that we all can utilize each and every day.
For the second consecutive year, Carolina’s Conference will be held on United Nations Day, a day that marks the 64th anniversary when the United Nations Charter was ratified on October 24, 1945. This day symbolizes the initial proactive establishment devoted to world peace and prosperity and we must continue to uphold this idea as we hold simulations of present day issues over the next two days.
I hope this conference enables you to acquire a better understanding surrounding global concerns and inspires you to remain passionate and dedicated in making your mark on humanity.
