Thanks guys to everyone who responded, which was quite a few of you.
So, the status of those who want to play in this tourney did not change (except for the addition of Huy). The list of below players is the same as it was before. However, I did call TASL last week to get further clarification on the roster and team rules, and things are looking much more prospective! Here's the deal that should make it much easier to field a squad for this tourney:
- TASL will allow us to register over 30 players from other teams in any league, even at this late of a date. If we do add additional players to our "official" fall roster, then each one of those players would have to pay an extra $10 to register with our team, just as they would have had to do if this were the beginning of the season. These additional players added to our roster would not count against the "guest" player allotment
- Adding new players to the fall roster does not count against our guest player count; at this point, the only difference between guest players and those added to the roster would be that guest players aren't required to pay the additional $10 fee to get new cards for our team
- Instead of making new roster players individually cover the $10 fee, we could roll that into the general cost of the team fee and split the cost so that some players aren't paying more than others and that everyone contributes an equal amount
- I also talked with the State Cup official, and he's really keen to get more teams into this year's tourney, so he would be willing to wave the additional $50 late fee if we can send in the proper forms by early this week
- TASL mentioned that the over 30 team Highbury FC is interested to play in this tourney, and may have already signed up. This is probably to best roster to look at if we want to combine teams for this tourney (unless they already have enough players of course). So if anyone knows guys on that squad and has good contacts with them, then we should engage in those conversations asap
I think with this news, we shouldn't have a problem signing up for this thing. We can get the forms filled out soon and get placed in the tourney and then should be able to spend the next week forming a roster, which isn't due for a few weeks. If anyone has any thoughts or contradictions to this plan, please let me know!

Next Saturday the O30 plays their last game at 12pm and the Men's Open team plays at 2pm. Both games are at the WRAL Centex field. No one can deny that the O30 team has provided key talent that lead to the Men's Open success this year. I encourage you all to reciprocate the support at 12pm next Saturday to watch the O30's last game; they will also be sticking around to watch us give it a go. Once the Men's Open complete their undefeated season, we will have time to rest and shower before dinner at Moonlight Pizza. I will make a reservation for 6:30pm but I need a total head count to allow them to prepare. Shoot me an email by the end of day Tuesday with how many people are coming in your party. If you dont respond and show up, you may have my crust. There will also be an after party at a nearby establishment for those with less weekend obligations. If anyone notices someone I left off the email list, please help me out by forwarding it on to them. |

Some of you will receive this email twice. It doesn’t look like all of the open team were included on the original email. If you are part of the O30 squad and notice a mate not on this email, please forward this to them.
We can do this one of two ways, guys. We can do this through the TASL sponsored fund raiser (link is below) or we can try to get a group package directly from Railhawks. It would obviously be a good thing to support the league in their fund raising for fields-and it would certainly get them off my back if we contributed as the captains have had more pressure put on them to get the word out about different events. Here’s the draw back-you have to register and pay for this particular event TODAY. I can talk to the league and see if they will get us an extra day so we can try to coordinate some people to buy tickets in clusters. It’s $25 for a group of two or more, but $30 if you buy individually. As I understand it, food and beer will be provided to us included in that price. How much beer? I don’t know.
For the TASL sponsored event: http://www.tsdnc.org/
The alternative is we buy direct from Railhawks in a group package. For a group of more than 20 prices will range from $7 to $14 depending on where we want to sit. Of course we would be on our own for food and drink, but not under the time constraint of getting this all together today to make the TASL deadline. Please share your thoughts… |
