Buddies in the Caribbean Suitcase DXpedition 2009

This video is a short 'teaser' from the Buddies in the Caribbean suitcase dxpedition to St. Martin (FS/PJ7) and Saba (PJ6) in early February 2009. The goal of the 8 man team of U.S.-based ham radio operators was to see if they could pack enough gear into their one 50 lb checked bag to quickly setup low-power ham stations using Buddipole antennas in various portable locations throughout the islands.

Team Saba Cliff Side on Saba Island PJ6 (10-minutes) (NEW)
Team Saba - Chris/W6HFP, Guy/N7UN and Steve/N0TU fighting the elements to set up a Buddipole vertical to launch signals from the Saba's north beach-cliffs near the old sulfur mines.  They made several hundred QSOs into Europe and North America in 2 hrs. 
Team Saba Climbs Volcano Mt Scenery PJ6 (10-minutes) (NEW)
Team Saba - Chris/W6HFP, Guy/N7UN and Steve/N0TU climb Mt Scenery, a 3000' volcano to launch signals on 17m and run a pile up until weather chases them down the mountain. The mountain top measured about 2m x 5m in size.

Setting up the Buddipole Versatee Vertical (10-minutes)Chris/W6HFP from Buddipole Antennas demonstrates setting up the Buddipole Versatee Vertical. He also shows in detail two methods of tuning the antenna for resonance (minimum SWR) by using an antenna analyzer (MFJ-259) and by ear using band noise. Filmed on the Oregon Coast.
