I talk to people all the time that are giving care to a family member, friend or spouse. They feel alone, time-stressed, worried about money, worried about their own health, worried about giving care without any formal training and they usually need a hug! I designed this website, my daily care giving tips
blog called Dear Francy,
our FREE Senior Care Facility Placement Service
and my Free "Senior Care with Spirit" newletter to do just that -
support those that are giving 24/7 to a loved one.
It does not matter if you're giving care to a spouse, a parent or a senior friend - if they have health issues or
emotional issues like Alzheimer's -
I give you tips and ideas to make your care-giving better.
Please take time to look through my pages and see if this information helps you or would help a friend of yours...
Everyone, at one time or another will give care to a loved one...don't let them do it alone, without support.
Pass the word along, thank you! francy
At 95 my mother, Toots, took a quick downward turn. She had been happily, living independently until she took a fall and had a long stay in the hospital and care center. The doctors said she had gotten strong enough to move back home and would probably only have 3-6 months left in her life. There was no real going home for her; because her apartment had stairs and no one to care for her. So, my husband, George, and I talked it over and decided a few months would not be too hard to manage and we brought her into our home.
Mother (Toots) did not have the funds for a fancy assisted-living home and we didn't either. We did have plenty of room in the downstairs of our home. So, I took one room for her bedroom and one for a small seating room and filled them up with lots of her own treasures. The guest bath was right across the hall and a large door to the patio was perfect for a wheelchair entrance. I really thought I could care for her without any real experience in that area...but what started out to be 3-6 months ended up to be a five year adventure. There were days that were filled with happy times and days and long nights filled with big challenges. Toots started to have small strokes that left her slightly -more- frail with each wave. We went through each adventure together and it was not easy for either of us.
I tried to find someone on the Internet that could give me support and help me walk through problems, decisions and emotions, but all I found were web pages by professionals that had the ability to treat and give advice. But I needed the everyday kind of advice and I just could not find it anywhere. That's why I started this site...to help anyone that's kind enough and loving enough to attend to the life progression of a loved one, friend, spouse or who is facing health challenges in their own life. I want to be here with support and advice to save you from the many difficult & lonely times that I faced during those five years.
Mother passed just a few months before her 100th birthday. I still miss her and I'm still proud of taking time out of my life to be with her at the end of her life. Just as I was getting my life back on track after her passing, my husband, George was diagnoised with Alzheimer's and I was crushed.
All of the things I have learned and the emotions I have and still feel are now shared with you. I need to stay home to care for my husband so I have added my Senior Care Consulting and our new FREE Senior Care Facility Placement Service. I hope you will find my care-giving hints, tricks, Free monthly newsletter, our new Talk Radio show on Senior Issues, products and workbooks helpful. I ask that you spread the word for me about my servcies and the Dear Francy daily care tips - so we can all grow out of the sharing. Thank you,
Blessings, francy
