Assignment Two Anna Greer- Outline for Cardinal Nonprofits

Motivation for project

·         Personal Experience:

o   As a freshman at Stanford I entered excited about the possibilities of the next four years. Stanford offers a multitude of different community service opportunities through a variety of different student run organizations. However, many of these organizations remain unknown to the general student population. If I had known more about the student run community service organizations on campus, and the service opportunities they provide, I would have participated more in service my freshman year.

·         To Make a Difference:

o   I want to do my part to make the Stanford student population a more service minded group. I believe that increasing the volunteer base of current service organizations is a more effective way for me to make an impact than if I start a new organization.

§  As a networking tool

§  So that they can see potentially compatible organizations

§  So that they can feed off of one another and grow

Issues to think about

·         The HAAS Center

o   The HAAS center has a similar webpage which contains:

§  A list of the organizations

·         Not organized in any logical fashion

§  Contact information for the organizations

§  Short descriptions of the organizations

·         Clearly written by the individual organizations

·         Not formulaic

·         Vary dramatically in length and content

o   The HAAS webpage does not contain critical information about service opportunities

§  This is where my webpage will provide a new service to the Stanford population and potentially incite action and increase student service

·         Getting out the Word

o   One potential difficulty will lie in making sure that the campus population is aware of Cardinal Nonprofits

o   The new freshmen will have to be alerted to Cardinal Nonprofits every year

§  This website could serve as a valuable tool while Freshmen find their place at Stanford

§  It is only useful if they know where it is and how to find it

§  Potential solution: get the HAAS center to agree to sponsor a link to this page on their webpage

·         Contacting the Organizations

o   Cardinal Nonprofits will only be successful with the participation of current campus nonprofits

§  In order to attain the participation of every student-run campus nonprofit I must make initial contact with the organizations ASAP

Plan for Implementation/Future Updates

·         Base Steps:

o   Contact each of the organizations with questions and a description of the intent of Cardinal Nonprofits

o   Collect information about each nonprofit including any websites, written materials etc. each group may have

o   Contact the HAAS center

§  To make sure I’m not missing any organizations

§  To gain any information they have about the comings and goings of each organization

·         Secondary Steps

o   Begin to compile information into more formulaic summaries of the goals of each organization

o   Create lists of the service opportunities provided by each organization

§  Find out from the organizations which jobs they REALLY need help with

o   Create the pages for each organization and organize them in an easy to follow, concise and intriguing manner

o   Ask each organization to look over their page to ensure satisfaction and accuracy

·         Tertiary Steps

o   Maintain the website by adding pages for new service organizations on campus every couple of months

o   Make sure that the data on each website remains up to date through monthly or bimonthly check-ups with the programs

§  Another potential option: ask the organizations to contact me if they have any additional content they would like posted on the website or if something on the website requires a change
