Assignment Two Anna Greer- Outline for Cardinal Nonprofits Motivation for project · Personal Experience: o As a freshman at Stanford I entered excited about the possibilities of the next four years. Stanford offers a multitude of different community service opportunities through a variety of different student run organizations. However, many of these organizations remain unknown to the general student population. If I had known more about the student run community service organizations on campus, and the service opportunities they provide, I would have participated more in service my freshman year. · To Make a Difference: o I want to do my part to make the Stanford student population a more service minded group. I believe that increasing the volunteer base of current service organizations is a more effective way for me to make an impact than if I start a new organization. Objectives/intent · To increase the visibility of Student-run community service organizations on campus · To create a one-stop spot for students interested in community service · To get out the word about available community service positions with these organizations o So that students become more involved and give back to the community o To increase the volunteer base of existing campus service challenge for charity o Graduate Students looking to become more active participants in campus and community life · Stanford Student-Run Nonprofits: o This website could be used by Stanford Student-Run Nonprofits as a kind of look-book of existing organizations § As a networking tool § So that they can see potentially compatible organizations § So that they can feed off of one another and grow Issues to think about · The HAAS Center o The HAAS center has a similar webpage which contains: § A list of the organizations · Not organized in any logical fashion § Contact information for the organizations § Short descriptions of the organizations · Clearly written by the individual organizations · Not formulaic · Vary dramatically in length and content o The HAAS webpage does not contain critical information about service opportunities § This is where my webpage will provide a new service to the Stanford population and potentially incite action and increase student service · Getting out the Word o One potential difficulty will lie in making sure that the campus population is aware of Cardinal Nonprofits o The new freshmen will have to be alerted to Cardinal Nonprofits every year § This website could serve as a valuable tool while Freshmen find their place at Stanford § It is only useful if they know where it is and how to find it § Potential solution: get the HAAS center to agree to sponsor a link to this page on their webpage · Contacting the Organizations o Cardinal Nonprofits will only be successful with the participation of current campus nonprofits § In order to attain the participation of every student-run campus nonprofit I must make initial contact with the organizations ASAP Plan for Implementation/Future Updates · Base Steps: o Contact each of the organizations with questions and a description of the intent of Cardinal Nonprofits o Collect information about each nonprofit including any websites, written materials etc. each group may have o Contact the HAAS center § To make sure I’m not missing any organizations § To gain any information they have about the comings and goings of each organization · Secondary Steps o Begin to compile information into more formulaic summaries of the goals of each organization o Create lists of the service opportunities provided by each organization § Find out from the organizations which jobs they REALLY need help with o Create the pages for each organization and organize them in an easy to follow, concise and intriguing manner o Ask each organization to look over their page to ensure satisfaction and accuracy · Tertiary Steps o Maintain the website by adding pages for new service organizations on campus every couple of months o Make sure that the data on each website remains up to date through monthly or bimonthly check-ups with the programs § Another potential option: ask the organizations to contact me if they have any additional content they would like posted on the website or if something on the website requires a change |
