Single Rope Technique

Basic equipment:- used by CUCC


  • Petzl Stop - Self-locking descender, works by squeezing the handle to "go" and releasing the handle to "stop".
  • Petzl Croll - Standard chest jammer, used to rest on while the hand jammer is moved up.
  • Petzl Ascension - Hand jammer used in conjunction with a foot loop to push yourself up the rope.
  • Chest Strap - This attaches to your croll and loops over your shoulders crossing over your back and under your arms. This offers support and holds your croll in the correct position to climb a rope.
  • Petzl Super Avanti - This is a sit harness. It is used as a method of securing yourself to your equipment.
  • Foot Loop - Often made of rope or tape, it is used to push your self up the rope.
  • Cow's Tails - Made of thick dynamic rope, used in pairs one short and one long used to directly clip into a knott or anchor when attaching or detaching from a rope.
  • Donkey's Dick - Used to aid in the hauling of tackle sacks.
  • Helmet - Stops your head from bumping the roof too much... also protects it in falls.
