1 October 2008 After much thinking and research we decided to buy a caravan. This was quite a major decision and it took us a very long time to arrive at it. We felt the best thing was for me to on a Caravan Club Towing Course first of all, just to make sure that I was capable of towing and reversing a caravan with our car, so I enrolled in September and went on it on 1st and 2nd October. I arrived at L-Busters Driving School at Henfield and found about a dozen people on the course. After a classroom session we were divided into two groups and sent out to two two large "car park" areas where our caravans awaited us. Hitching up was the first thing, and it was nice to finally see my new tow-bar with a caravan attached to it. When my turn came, I drove around the car park a few times then was told to reverse in a straight line. All well so far. The rest of the course passed uneventfully and by the end of it I felt I could reverse into a gap, either nearside or offside without too much difficulty. One very good feature of the course was the opportunity to talk to the instructors, Tony and Bernie, about every possible aspect of caravanning. Also, it was good to chat to the other course members while waiting for your turn at hitching and reversing. Everyone seemed very positive about the caravanning experience and gave the impression that it really is a way of life, with every trip needing a spirit of adventure. |
