The Southern Cross Caravan Club of Queensland Inc The Southern Cross Caravan Club is based in the Brisbane area, founded by five enthusiastic caravanners the club was formed in May 2001 after attending other club rallies as visitors. They were impressed with the idea of regular use of the caravans along and with the appeal that the fellowship of being with likeminded people brings. The club started with 25 member vans and has since increased to 30. The club has capped its membership at this number. The club is still as enthusiastic as it was in the beginning and some of the original founders continue to be active members of the club. We get together monthly for rallies to continue this fellowship between caravan owners. The rallies are usually held at venues within a 200 kilometre radius of Brisbane with the occasional longer trip to somewhere special. The venues vary from the traditional Caravan Parks to Showgrounds, Scout Camps, Bush Camp Sites and National Parks. Our rallies are held on the first weekend of the month running from Wednesday through to the following Tuesday with the main activities planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Members perform the duties of rally hosts and organize activities which include visits to local places of interest, dining out at local hotels, theme nights, card nights, craft workshops, disk bowls or just sitting around chatting and relaxing. A usual day consists of combined morning and afternoon teas and the traditional Happy Hour or so in the afternoon around a game of disk bowls. Our monthly newsletter Under the Stars keeps members up to date with what is on, where, when and how to get there. Each month the members eagerly await the newsletter to see if they have made it into “The who dunnit file” which always has those things that you did not want everyone to know about, right there in print. Visitors are welcome to our rallies, but are limited to four visits a year and five visitors at any one rally. New members must attend three rallies as a visitor after this they can make application to join. This will only be accepted if a vacancy exists. The club has a pet policy that allows pets to accompany members at those sites that pets are allowed. Pets are not allowed in areas where food is being consumed, club meetings social activities or other caravans. Our club proudly supports a smoking policy. The club can be contacted through our Secretary, see details below. |
