Staff Duty Analysis for Cadet Officer Progression

    posted ‎‎Sep 22, 2009 6:49 AM‎‎ by Phoenix Composite Squadron   [ updated ‎‎Sep 26, 2009 9:23 AM‎‎ by Tommy POPHIN ]

Several of our new cadet officers have been wondering about Staff Duty Analysis which is a requirement for promotions that they did not have when they doing the Phase 2 Achievements.
Basically it involves reading about, observing, and participating in staff duties as part of their CAP activities.
The whole story can be found in CAP Pamphlet 52-14 at http://members.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/P052_014_8605254CD870D.pdf.
Also, I encourage all cadet officers and NCOs to read and browse CAP Manual 52-16 frequently to stay familiar with the rules governing the cadet program. Consider these regulations 1) Under CAPR 52-16. On page 28, there is a chart for the SDA. 2) Under CAPP 52-14.  On pg. 4, Review the directives. On pg. 5 are the regs for how many words need to be included on your SDA. On p. 7 is a sample of the SDA.

Former co-CAP Cadet and now PFC Scott Smith Visits Squadron and Presents Field Medic Report

    posted ‎‎Aug 21, 2009 4:43 PM‎‎ by Tommy POPHIN   [ updated ‎‎Sep 2, 2009 6:58 PM‎‎ ]

It was a priviledge to have PFC Scott Smith visit with our Squadron and tell about his experiences as a Field Medic in the U.S. Army.  PFC Smith was a cadet member of the Civil Air Patrol since he was 14 yrs. old.  Most of his Civil Air Patrol experience was as part of the Thunder Mt. Composite of Grand Junction, Colorado.  He was a member of the Phoenix Squadron for his last year of service.  His highest position in CAP was as the Executive Officer. The Civil Air Patrol had a great influence on Smith joining the Army.  Smith stated, "I was picking up the phone to call the Air Force recruiter when I decided at the last moment to enlist in the Army."

PFC Smith has served 1 year in the Army and is stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia where he continues his training as a Field Medic.  Smith already has great technical knowledge concerning his duties.  He demonstrated his knowledge during a lecture he presented to our Squadron this past Monday, August 24, 2009.  He enlisted Lt. Velez as his victim.  Velez had fun acting like a wounded soldier but found it embarrasing at moments.

PFC Smith also has 2 sisters who are cadets in their Civil Air Patrol unit.  Along with his sisters, his parents are serving in the U.S. Air Force.  Smith stated the reason he originally joined CAP was because his parents made him because he had issues with anger management.  He stated that his experience gave him discipline and he no longer struggles with anger issues.  "CAP made me the person I am today."
