What is Capoeira Angola?

Capoeira Angola is the name given to the traditional and mother style of capoeira.

This African-Brazilian art of self-defense and dance is performed with live music. The berimbau, a single stringed musical bow with a gourd tied to it, is the heart of the Art.

The game of Capoeira Angola is played in a circle called roda by two people whose bodies interact into a language of trickery, flexibility, cunning and malice, as both try to unbalance and outsmart each other. Parts of the body most likely to be used are the head for cabeçadas (head butts), legs and feet for kicking and rasteiras (sweeps & takedowns).
