No other youth organization comes close to Civil Air Patrol in the area of encampments. No other has such variety of themes, such variety of locations, and reasonableness of cost.
Basic Encampments
Cadets must attend a Basic Encampment before they will be eligible to attend national encampments and special activities. Basic Encampments are offered throughout the United States, and a cadet may attend any of them. In the past, KY073 cadets have attended Basic at Wendell Ford Regional Training Center in Kentucky, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and at Alpena, Mich. In 2011, most of our cadets will attend the Kentucky Wing Encampment (formerly known as Great Lakes Region Southern Encampment, or GLR-South) at Wendell Ford. Click on the Kentucky Wing Encampment link for 2009 and 2010 encampment photos and for information about 2011.
National Encampments and Special Activities
CAP National activities range from flying to aerospace engineering to willderness search-and-rescue. Cadets who become officers also have the opportunity to attend national officers college and the international cadet exchange. For much more information, visit any of the National Cadet Special Activites websites that you can find at http://www.ncsas.com/. Deadline for applying on-line for all NCSAs (except Hawk Mountain and NESA) is 15 Jan. Once you have completed the on-line application form, print it out, obtain the necessary approval signatures, and definitely attach a one-page list of all your CAP accomplishments, ratings, activities.

Encampment News2011 National Encampments Posted -- National CAP has now posted information on 2011 National Cadet Special Activities at http://www.ncsas.com/ On-line applications can be submitted beginning Dec. 1, and deadline is Jan. 15 for everything except Hawk Mountain and NESA. We will have a parents/cadets meeting re: these encampments on 6 Jan at the Reserve Center.
Kentucky Wing Encampment, 26 June-2 July 2011 -- This encampment was known as the Great Lakes Region-South Encampment, and the name is changing for 2011. Go to the Kentucky Wing Encampment webpage for a taste of what encampment has been for the past two years. Cadet staff will report 24 June. Regular attendees will arrive 8-10 a.m. Sunday 26 June. The squadron will fund group transportation only.
Other Basic Encampments -- Cadets who cannot attend the Kentucky Encampment or want to serve on staff elsewhere have a variety of choices. Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan also run their own encampments. Texas, California, and Florida hold winter encampments between Christmas and New Year's. For more information, go to the web pages of those wings.
Hawk Mountain Ranger School -- Dates are 9-17 July 2011, with a day on either side for travel. Applications are due 1 June at the squadron. Go to the Hawk Mountain website for more information. Hawk is nine grueling days outdoors with your own food, but it is a life-changing experience. It is very important that you begin acquiring items on the gear list now. Some items are more vital than others, so contact any of our 9 cadet Rangers for advice in that area.
National Emergency Services Academy -- Two sessions of classes are scheduled between 13-26 June 2010. Apply on-line at the NESA website. Those who have earned their GTM3 badges should apply for the Advanced Ground School. Cadets also have the option of Basic Ground School and the Medic Course. Contact Sgts.
