About Us

Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and it gives you the chance to do things you can’t do in any other youth organization.  This is what we do at Campbell County Compsite Squadron KY073, in words and pictures:

Search & Rescue – Our squadron emphasizes and specializes in emergency services such as search & rescue and disaster relief.  We train at least twice a month on the skills necessary to find missing aircraft and missing people.  Civil Air Patrol performs more than 90 percent of the Air Force’s inland search & rescue missions, and our cadet ground teams get in on the action.

Flying & Aerospace Education – Want to fly?  CAP is the place.  Our cadets get flying time in our search & rescue Cessna aircraft with our skilled CAP adult pilots.  Those who advance in rank and leadership have the chance to actually sign up for pilot training.  We also have monthly aerospace education classes that help you learn what you need to know about airplanes, aircraft, and rockets.

Radio Communications – Our cadets learn professional skills with radios that help us carry out our missions.  Advanced radio users get their own call sign.

National Encampments – No other youth organization offers such a wide array of encampments as CAP.  Our cadets start out with a basic summer encampment at Wendell Ford National Guardy Training Center or at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.  Those who want to excel have a wide array of choices such as Blue Beret Air Marshaling, Hawk Mountain Wilderness Search & Rescue, National Emergency Services Academy, pilot training, honor guard and even pararescue school.

Physical Training – To advance in rank, our cadets exercise and test on a monthly basis.  We emphasize that fitness is a lifetime pursuit.

Moral Leadership – Our core values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence and Volunteer Service (and more) are emphasized in monthly sessions and in everything we do.

Special Activities – We tour the U.S. Air Force Museum with pilots who know their stuff.  In the past, we have toured the Marine One presidential helicopter, flown with T-28 formation pilots, built model rockets, flown in gliders, participated in parades, served as color guard, and take regular First Aid/CPR/AED courses.
