Upcoming Events:

1.  Feb 16, 2010  7pm-9pm  "Home Energy Audit Review"

Location: Capitol Hill United Methodist Church, 421 Seward Sq SE (5th and Pennsylvania Ave, SE), Washington DC.

Washington, DC's Department of the Environment (DDOE) offers free home energy audits to DC homeowners under the DDOE Home Energy Rating Systems program.  DDOE has contracted with Elysian Energy and PEG to conduct the audits, and last year dozens of Capitol Hill residents took advantage of this free service.  CHEC has synthesized the results of several of the audits and will present to you what we have learned about the most common home improvements that homeowners can make to reduce costs and increase the energy efficiency of their homes.

Our guest speakers include LaKeisha Estep (tentative), DDOE; Jim Conlon, President of Elysian Energy; and Matthew Cooper, President of PEG, who will speak about the Home Energy  Rating Systems program, how energy audits work, their findings and what additional programs and funding are available for DC residents in 2010.

  2. Mar 16, 2010  7pm-9pm  "Spring Time Mulching and Organic Gardening"

Location: Capitol Hill United Methodist Church, 421 Seward Sq SE (5th and Pennsylvania Ave, SE), Washington DC.

Have you ever wanted to start your own backyard organic garden, but did not know how to begin?  Do you want to know about which vegetables and herbs are most conducive to the Mid-Atlantic climate? Have you heard about composting and mulching, but do not know what it is or how beneficial it is for growing and maintaining your garden?  If so, then our March meeting is not to be missed.

Please join the Capitol Hill Energy Coop as we kick off our Spring season with a discussion on mulching and organic gardening for beginners.  Out guest speaker will be Carl Rollins, Outreach Coordinator for Rooting DC, an annual urban gardening forum that educates novice gardeners on soil preparation, starting seeds, gardening in small spaces, and so much more!  If you are really eager to get started and can't wait until March 16th, please visit Rooting DC's website for detailed information on their Forum taking place on Saturday, Feb 20th.
