Slain Dorchester mom laid to rest

Alexandra Gomes, the 19-year-old woman shot to death in Dorchester on Sunday in a hail of gunfire that left her younger sister and three others wounded, was remembered yesterday as a devoted mother.

At a service at Dolan Funeral Home in Dorchester, family and friends recalled how “Xanda” Gomes doted on her 17-month-old daughter, Niylah.

Afterward, mourners gathered in the rain at Cavalry Cemetery for her burial, after which they released balloons symbolizing her spirt’s flight to heaven.

Yesterday, police arrested Daniel Harris, 23, of Boston in connection with Gomes’ murder.

“This arrest brings us one step closer to justice for a young mother taken from those who loved and needed her most,” Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said.
